Barn Conversion – Heat Pump & Solar PV Solution

As part of the conversion of an off-grid barn into a holiday let, the owner sought a low-carbon, energy-efficient heating solution to minimise both running costs and environmental impact.

Global Energy Systems installed a 15kW air source heat pump, complemented by 20 solar PV panels, creating an integrated heat and power system. This combination enables the property to generate enough electricity to offset the majority of it’s heating demand for much of the year.

Compared to a traditional oil-based system – estimated to cost over £2,500 annually – this renewable solution delivers significant savings while dramatically reducing carbon emissions.

This project demonstrates how combining heat pump technology with on-site renewable generation can provide an effective, sustainable solution for off-grid properties, offering both environmental benefits and long-term cost efficiency.
